Based on bbcgoodfood recipe
  • 600ml double cream
  • 500ml semi-skimmed milk
  • 1clove garlic
  • 6 potatoes
  • a couple ofhandfuls of cheddargrated
  1. Heat the fan oven to 190c.
  2. Peel the potatoes and thinly slice with a mandoline.
  3. Pour the cream and milk into a large saucepan and heat.
  4. Add the sliced potatoes to the pan and bring to a simmer, stirring to stop the tatties sticking to the bottom.
  5. Take the tatties out with a slotted spoon and put them into an ovenproof dish to about 5cm deep.
  6. Pour the remaining sauce (removing garlic) so a little seeps to the surface.
  7. Grate cheddar over the top.
  8. Pop it in the oven for 30 minutes until golden brown on top.
